PRIVACY & SAFETY
Privacy and safety on Peek.
No app can promise that nothing will ever go wrong. What we can do is show the safeguards that are in place today. The full terms are in the Terms of Service.
Current safeguards
- People you know. Picks come from friends and people at your school. There is no feed of strangers.
- Contacts are optional. You can use Peek without sharing your contacts. By default, matching happens on your phone and only short fragments of scrambled numbers are sent to Peek. Some versions ask for your agreement before uploading encrypted names and numbers, kept for up to 30 days. Contacts are never shown to other members.
- Texts only when a member asks. Peek sends one-time sign-in codes, and an invite text from Peek's own number only when a member directly asks Peek to send one. Every invite text can be stopped by replying STOP.
- Chat with friends only. Members can chat by real name with friends they follow. Messages are checked by automated review after they are sent, and blocking stops new messages both ways.
- Screening before publishing. Questions and photos submitted by members are automatically screened before they go live.
- School features need verification. School polls and school friend lists open only after a one-time verification with a school email address or a student ID photo.
- Report and block on everything. Every profile, post, and chat can be reported, and any person can be blocked.
- Ages 13 and over. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we deactivate it and delete the personal data. Parents can report one by email.
- No data sales. Peek does not buy or sell personal data.
- Help without an account. Anyone can ask about a message or have their number removed by email.
Not allowed
- Bullying, harassment, or content meant to shame, exclude, or embarrass someone.
- Threats, intimidation, or encouraging harm to anyone.
- Sexual content, or anything that sexualizes minors.
- Attacks on someone's race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or other protected characteristic.
- Posting a photo of someone, or a question about them, without their permission.
- Pretending to be someone else, or sharing another person's private information.
- Manipulating votes, spam, or fake accounts.
"It was a joke" does not change whether it comes down.
How screening works
Poll questions are a mix of questions written by Peek and questions submitted by members. Screening happens in three stages. Before publishing, questions and photos submitted by members are screened automatically. After sending, chat messages are checked automatically and hidden if they break the rules. After a report, the team reviews it.
When something is reported, the team looks at the content, the context, and whether it has happened before. Depending on what we find, we may remove the content, warn the member, limit features, or suspend or remove the account.
Report and block
Open the profile, post, or chat and choose Report. Reported content is taken down quickly while the team reviews it. Blocking a person stops interactions with them right away, including new chat messages in both directions.
Report, block, or do both. Do not reply or retaliate.
If you do not have a Peek account, for example a parent or a teacher, email support instead.
Immediate danger
If someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a trusted adult first, then let us know.
